“Reality is one of the few words that means nothing without quotation marks.” – Vladimir Nabokov. To which, I might add words like democracy, capitalism, inflation – but perhaps that would be churlish – lots of big conceptual words disintegrate under examination.
With what senses do we determine what is real? And how do we agree? As quoted in The Atlantic, May 2018, Jason Lanier, VR pioneer, wrote: “Never has a medium been so potent for beauty and so vulnerable to creepiness. Virtual reality will test us. It will amplify our character more than other media ever have.” Fake news – small beer!
